Directions
Start with the cookie dough. Beat diced butter, sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mix well.
Add vanilla sugar, salt, flour, and baking soda. Mix until you have a smooth dough. Fold in the chocolate chips.
Place the dough in the refrigerator while you prepare the brownie batter.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from the heat and add the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
Whisk sugar and eggs in a bowl until light and pale, then stir the chocolate mixture into the eggs.
Add flour, cocoa powder, and vanilla sugar. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan. Break half of the cookie dough into small pieces and distribute over the batter. Pour over the remaining brownie batter and top with the rest of the cookie dough.
Bake for about 33 minutes. The edges should be set, while the center is still slightly soft.
Let cool completely in the refrigerator before removing from the pan and cutting into squares.

Serve as they are, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
